India’s First Quantum Communication Satellite Scheduled for 2027 Launch

ISRO has announced plans to launch its first experimental quantum communication satellite in 2027. Operating from a Lagrange-point orbit, it will demonstrate quantum key distribution between ground stations in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The project, in partnership with TIFR and IIT Bombay, marks India’s entry into secure quantum space communication, joining only a handful of global neighbors. Ground infrastructure for quantum cryptography is under preparation for a 2026 trial phase.
